De Roma is also very concerned with social issues, which are reflected through film showings, discussions, book presentations, and sociocultural activities.

An extremely big team of volunteers—more than 450—and a small staff of regular employees manage the entire business, which involves more than 400 activities annually. De Roma is funded in part by the city of Antwerp and the Borgerhout neighborhood, and they labor for more than 80% of their income on their own.
